Probably useful to print these pages out to take with you. I'd leave a copy in Smuggler, but I'm always changing/updating these pages. Please email me with anything you'd like to see here or point out errors or ommissions - thanks.

BOOKING & PAYMENT ... Cottage availability and cost is HERE (online diary)

Contact me on 0787 907 6677, Then we can continue like this ...

Pay a deposit of 20% of the rental with your confirmation of booking. This is non-refundable.** A further deposit of £75 is also required, which will be fully returned at the end of your holiday, subject to the cottage being left in a satisfactory condition. I once withheld a £10er for someone who left everything running and sent the meters into 'debt'.

I'll nudge you for any outstanding balance, about 6 weeks before your holdiday.

** If you have to cancel your booking: if I can book it out again, I will refund your deposit. If I'm unable to book it out again, and your cancellation has cost me a week's rental, then I will keep your deposit and the Damages Deposit.

COTTAGE KEYS ... Pick them up at The Fishermans Arms, they will be expecting you, just go through the short alley opposite the front door of the cottage and look right and you'll see the 'Fish'.

GAS & ELECTRIC ... There will be credit on both the Gas and Electric meters on your arrival but please top up as soon as you can to ensure it doesn't run out. (if the meters have run into 'debt' ****(see below) please let me know asap and keep your receipts)

ELECTRIC meter is in the cupboard to the side of the front door and the key to charge it will be left for you on the kitchen table. Charge the key up until 10pm at night at the Co-op shop with the PAYPOINT (PP) sign outside near the top of the town.

GAS meter is in the corner of the kitchen by the sink, on the floor. There is a torch left by it ! The card to charge the meter will be left for you on the kitchen table. Charge the card at CO-OP (see above) or (closer) at the Post Office on the main street.

If for any reason the gas has not been used for some time - make sure you read the instructions (by torch) on the meter - some pressing and holding is required to restore the supply.

**** It's important not to let the meters run out of credit (please). There is a 'reserve' of credit, so you don't freeze if it runs out in the middle of the night I imagine. If you use up the reserve, then the next person (either the cleaner, me or the next visitor) who puts in credit will find most or maybe all of their credit being taken to re-fill the 'reserve' or debt from the last user. Hope that's clear!

FIRE ... Remember this is a very old house there is only the one door to leave through. If you lock the bottom lock over night - leave the key in the lock, then you won't have to hunt for it if you need to leave in a hurry. There are smoke alarms around the house and a fire extinguisher in the kitchen.

WATER ... The stop cock for the bathroom is under the shelf in the sitting room - of course! The OFF for the whole house is outside at the corner of the house nearest the kitchen sink and the key for it is by the gas meter in that same corner.

INTERNET ACCESS ... This is an old Cornish cottage - not Mission Control! Just joking - go through the alley opposite, turn left and a few doors along on your right is the Enterprise Office - you can buy some time there. You can take your laptop there to plug it in, and you don't have 'web-based email' then ... see the last paragraph below! A good way to get your email is to stroll into the Fishermans Arms and use his wi-fi - nice people, no charge. I have stood outside his window at 8am and downloaded email through the window! There is Free internet access in Looe Library too.

If you need any expert computer advice, purchases or repairs (and need to speak to friendly people who know what they are talking about) go see the boys over the river at Quay PCs 01503 264296 (get on the Ferry and you are there)

MOBILE TELEPHONES ... You may be on a network that has no problem here, but mine only gets a signal out in the street or parts of it anyway. In the house, in the corner by the window of the sitting room I can get signal. If you can get a signal there it is a good idea the leave the mobile in that corner! Top Bedroom can be ok too.

SMOKING ... This is a NO SMOKING house - thanks.

REFRIGERATOR ... TURNING IT ON .... please don't pull it out - like I first did. Inside the fridge is a dial : 0 = OFF, trial and error depending on the outside temperature, but it'll freeze milk at 9 - like I first did! "How much milk my love - 1 lump or two"! Should be ok around a setting of 4.

CENTRAL HEATING ... For ON and OFF just use the thermostat on the wall at the entrance to the kitchen. The timer overide and other controls is in the cupboard by the TV - please don't mess in there unless you really have to. The Central Heating boiler also supplies hot water to the sinks.

LAUNDRY ... (if there was space for a washing maching, dishwasher etc - I would install them all, there just isn't) Across the river in West Looe on Princes Street is a Laundry who will do a 'service wash' for you. I think they might do a 'Collection and Delivery Service' too. Call them on 01503 263810 - please let me know how you get on with them. I think a big bag, wash & dry is about £10.

PETS ... Small well behaved dogs are fine. Just keep them on the floor please! Beach Guide for dog owners.

TELEVISION ... Brand new flat screen installed. (Jan2009) Digitgal TV is expected in East Looe by the middle of this year (2009). At the moment we have just the 4 main channels - with a good picture, there is also a DVD player.

MYSTERIES ... The ceiling light that won't come on in the sitting room : it has its own switch on the lamp itself. The lights on the landing work by a combination of the switches at the bottom and at the top of the stairs. If one of them seems not to work - use the other! If you've visited the cottage before - the shower mystery is over !! New showers all fitted.

RUBBISH ... Outside the front door, opposite and to the right are a row of miniture lockup bays ... the Cottage one is No.3 (the third one along) a key for the lock is on your cottage key ring. ALL RUBBISH MUST BE IN BLACK BAGS OR IT WON'T GET COLLECTED. Someone will empty the bins every few days.

PARKING / UNLOADING ... Although you can't park premanently by the cottage, you can get very close to unload. To unload, when you arrive at Looe, drive into East Looe (i.e. don't go over the bridge, but drive into town with the bridge and the river on your right) Go through the traffic lights into the one-way loop around town. Now, follow the one way system down Fore Street and around until you reach the quay, immediately before the second set of lights (and opposite the Bullers Arms) pull over on the right (at the end of Middle Market Street) and park there to unload.

My advice is to unload as above and then take your car a car park: The quay at the top of the town is closest but very expensive, and don't even think about taking the odd chance, it is patrolled almost constantly and the fine is £60. This car park has no option for a weekly deal.

I recommend taking your car over the bridge and by the Millpool (cheaper too) - an enormous car park and you can park there for a week for £20ish in the Summer, less dependant on the time of year. You will need it £all in £1 coins, so, just park and then stroll a few yards back toward town and by the bridge there is an Amusement Arcade, put your £notes in the change machine for £1 coins !!

Pearn's boat yard is a good place to park (I always go there), just smaller and if you get a weekly ticket it's just possible you might not be able to get back in at the busy height of the season.

And ... it's a nice walk over the bridge anyway!
